The Challenge

How do you bring the world’s oldest Major to a digital audience?

The challenge was to balance exciting on-course features with live content for fans following from afar. We needed to integrate live video, radio feeds, a social media news feed, and a real-time leaderboard into a single interface. The goal was to give those unable to attend the opportunity to immerse themselves in the championship and access up-to-the-minute information from anywhere in the world.

Design Evolution

Bringing fans closer to the action than ever before.

The design process was driven by the need to present a vast amount of live data without losing the prestige of the event. We focused on creating an immersive environment that catered to both the casual viewer and the dedicated golf fan.

iPad Wireframes

The plan was to design a dashboard where fans could get an overview of The Open Championship on a single screen. This included live video, the leaderboard, favourite player tracking, course flyovers, and up-to-the-minute news updates.

The Skeuomorphic Era

The design embraced the aesthetic of the time, using rich textures and digital metaphors to create a premium feel that matched the heritage of The Open.

Timeline

Fans told us that following the timeline meant they felt they were at The Open even when they were on a work break at the office. This continuous stream of updates provided a narrative of the day's play as it unfolded.
