The Challenge

Translating a high-end printed book into a visual experience for a digital generation.

The objective was to transform a book, rich with powerful testimony, real-life stories, and stunning photography, into a digital app with zero funding and a compressed timeline. We used the Mag+ platform to publish a product that felt premium on both phone and tablet.

The One Printed Book
Print to Pixel

Moving from print to digital was about more than just resizing pages; we used motion and layering to turn the book’s content into a journey of discovery.

The original printed book relied on full-bleed imagery and a clean, spacious layout. To translate this into a digital experience, we focused on layering content over stunning photography. By introducing subtle motion, we transformed the reading experience into a tactile exploration, ensuring every screen felt engaging and fresh.

A significant part of the process involved navigating the technical restrictions of the publishing platform. We spent time exploring how to push those constraints to ensure the digital version did’t feel static, but rather a native experience that invited interaction.

Intentional Interaction.

Stories

Rather than a series of simple click-through screens, we layered stories over immersive, full-screen photography. We established a consistent visual language across the app, while allowing each individual story to feel unique.

Q&A

The author, Carlos Darby, interviewed several key pastors. This led to a conversational design: through vertical slideshows, questions are posed and answers are swiped into view. This brought a sense of discovery to the long-form text, making the interviews more engaging.

The Results

From bound print to fluid touch.

Success for The One was about delivering a high-fidelity digital book under strict technical and budgetary limitations. We successfully translated the aesthetic of the printed version into an interactive format that felt native and immersive across both iPad and mobile phone.
